Simmental Calf

Schleich - Simmental Calf

Cows and their calves share an extremely deep, life-long bond. They show affection by licking and nibbling at each other. Even if separated, they can still recognize one another later by their voice and scent.

Calf Development and Nutrition

• Birth and Early Nutrition: Calves are typically born once a year. It is crucial for them to drink their mother's milk within the first few hours. This milk, called colostrum, is a special yellowish liquid that humans cannot consume.
• Health Benefits of Colostrum: Colostrum is rich in antibodies, which help the calf build resistance to diseases.
• Transition to Normal Milk: After about five days, the calf transitions to drinking normal cow's milk for approximately ten months. After this period, it will rely on grass and other plants for nourishment.
